Install guide

Installing your AI-Ready files on WordPress

Last updated 19 September 2026

WordPress lets you install all five files. If the site already runs an SEO plugin, three of them are a settings screen away; if it does not, they are a file upload.

You can install this

robots.txt

Files: robots.txt

This is the file that tells search engines and AI crawlers which parts of your site they may read.

  1. If the site runs an SEO plugin such as Yoast SEO or Rank Math, open its Tools (or General) settings and look for its robots.txt editor — the plugin writes a physical file that takes over from WordPress's built-in virtual one.
  2. If no such plugin is installed, ask whoever manages the hosting account for File Manager or FTP access, and create or replace robots.txt in the site's root folder with the file we sent.
  3. Load yourdomain.com/robots.txt in a private browser window afterward and check it shows our content, not the WordPress default.
You can install this

sitemap.xml

Files: sitemap.xml

This lists your pages so crawlers can find them without guessing.

  1. Most WordPress sites already publish a sitemap, either through core (at /wp-sitemap.xml) or through an SEO plugin. Tell us which URL yours uses before replacing anything, so the site doesn't end up with two competing sitemaps.
  2. If there isn't one yet, upload the sitemap.xml file we sent to the site's root folder the same way as robots.txt, using File Manager or FTP.
You can install this

llms.txt and llms-full.txt

Files: llms.txt, llms-full.txt

These give AI systems a short plain-text map of your site and a fuller copy of its content, in the format they read fastest.

  1. WordPress has no built-in place for llms.txt or llms-full.txt. Use File Manager or FTP to upload both files to the site's root folder, next to robots.txt.
  2. Confirm yourdomain.com/llms.txt and yourdomain.com/llms-full.txt load as plain text rather than a 404 page.
You can install this

The For-AI page

Files: for-ai.txt

This page states plainly what your business does and how to reach it, written for an AI system reading in one pass rather than a person browsing.

  1. In the WordPress admin, go to Pages, then Add New.
  2. Paste the content of for-ai.txt, set the page's URL slug to for-ai, and publish it.
You can install this

The identity block

Files: organization.jsonld

This is the structured data that tells search engines and AI systems unambiguously who you are — the same job a business card does for a person.

  1. Go to Appearance, then Theme File Editor (older versions of WordPress call this Appearance, Editor), and open header.php for the active theme.
  2. Paste the contents of organization.jsonld inside a <script type="application/ld+json"> tag, just before the closing </head> tag, and update the file.
  3. If Theme File Editor isn't available — some page-builder themes hide it — a plugin such as Insert Headers and Footers can place the same code without touching theme files; ask us if that route is needed instead.

When you are finished

Open the verification link in the email that came with your kit. We re-scan the site and send back a one-page sheet listing every file, whether it is live, and what moved. It lands in your inbox by the next morning.

If you never click it, we run the same check thirty days after delivery and send the sheet anyway. Nothing about the install expires, and nothing here needs a developer on standby.
