Installing your AI-Ready files on Squarespace
Last updated 19 September 2026
Squarespace is the strictest platform we publish a guide for. That is a limit of the platform, not of your site, and the two files an AI system reads first still install normally.
3 of the 5 cannot be installed on Squarespace at all. Those are marked, with the reason, rather than left for you to discover.
robots.txt
Files: robots.txt
This is the file that tells search engines and AI crawlers which parts of your site they may read.
Not possible on Squarespace. All Squarespace sites share one robots.txt file that Squarespace controls, and site owners cannot open or edit it.
Your training-crawler choice cannot be enforced as a file there. Everything else in your kit installs normally.
sitemap.xml
Files: sitemap.xml
This lists your pages so crawlers can find them without guessing.
Not possible on Squarespace. Squarespace builds sitemap.xml itself and gives no access to the site's root directory to replace it.
The sitemap stays the one Squarespace maintains; there is nothing from our file to install here.
llms.txt and llms-full.txt
Files: llms.txt, llms-full.txt
These give AI systems a short plain-text map of your site and a fuller copy of its content, in the format they read fastest.
Not possible on Squarespace. Squarespace gives site owners no root directory to place files in, so llms.txt and llms-full.txt cannot live at yourdomain.com/llms.txt.
An AI system checking for a root llms.txt will not find one on Squarespace. We fold the same information into your For-AI page instead, which is a normal page and does install.
The For-AI page
Files: for-ai.txt
This page states plainly what your business does and how to reach it, written for an AI system reading in one pass rather than a person browsing.
- In the Pages panel, click the + next to a navigation section to add a new page.
- Name it For AI, set its URL to for-ai, paste the content of for-ai.txt into the page, and publish it.
The identity block
Files: organization.jsonld
This is the structured data that tells search engines and AI systems unambiguously who you are — the same job a business card does for a person.
- Go to Settings, then Advanced, then Code Injection.
- Paste the contents of organization.jsonld inside a <script type="application/ld+json"> tag into the Header field, and save.
When you are finished
Open the verification link in the email that came with your kit. We re-scan the site and send back a one-page sheet listing every file, whether it is live, and what moved. It lands in your inbox by the next morning.
If you never click it, we run the same check thirty days after delivery and send the sheet anyway. Nothing about the install expires, and nothing here needs a developer on standby.
Squarespace does not publish a help article that covers these files. If a step above does not match what you see on screen, write to us and we will walk through it with you.
